In 1917, the Alsatian Mechanical Construction Company (SACM), specialised in wires and cables, opened in Clichy on the Seine River in the north-eastern part of the city. In 1969, it was taken over by the Lyon Cableworks Company, which then became the largest French cable making company.
For nearly 70 years, cables of all types were made here to be used in electricity and telephone networks.
In 1986, it was acquired by Alcatel Cables, and today it is called Nexans.
